Manchester United vs Manchester City Match Preview & Possible Lineups
- Updated: September 9, 2016
After an exciting international break, we now head to the clubs’ fixtures. Many will be happening but the most awaited in the English league will be an early kickoff at Old Trafford on Saturday. We expect an exciting fixture as both parties have shown due seriousness in the highly hyped league kingship.
The story starts right from the bench. Pep and Jose are the most decorated managers in the tournament. They’ve met severally and an element of rivalry has arisen. Pep have had a better record against Mou though many would argue Messi was responsible. It is also expected tiki taka will rock horns with the counter attacking football.
Both parties head to this derby having collected all the points in the first three outings. However, the Citizens have a stunning +6 goal difference margin allowing them to regaly and squarely sit a top of the table. Since Chelsea has also gathered all points and share a goal difference margin with the Red Devils, Mourinho and his expensive lads sits third due to the A-Z natural rule.
Manchester City have scored a lot of goals in their past three pieces of work. They have done this nine times revealing their bitter taste against defenders. However, Kun who has scored three of them will not feature as the three matches ban commences. Nolito, Sterling and a proper replacement for Kun will lead the poaching process and the United’s back line must keep them at bay for a positive result. However, the citizens haven’t kept a cleansheet so far. This is arguably their weakness and if Manchester United capitalises on it, Pep will take home a number of bags filled with goals home. As a result, changes might occur having in mind Bravo is yet to play for them. Company is also fit but since their back line missed him less, Pep might decide to keep him out of this.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have scored six against their past three opponents . Their main target Ibrahimovic has already done it thrice. Considering his experience, quality and attitude towards Pep, the attacking sub-group might be made around him. United has only conceded once. The lad gurding their poles is without a doubt one of the best in the planet. More importantly, the quality in their midfield explains something towards this. Less attacks have made it through Pogba manned midfield. Now that Fellaini might be available, the Citizens will have to do more than usual to get out of it.
Mark Clattenburg will officiate the gaming period. He has been doing a commendable job and many hailed his handling of the big matches in the UCL final and Euro cup finals. He has also officiated the last two derbies at Old Trafford where the Citizens lost once and drew once.
On the papers, both teams have a winning look. But a fact that football is a tough saga must be respected. Once the ball rolls on a selected and worked on piece of earth, we get the results. It’s still a barren draw till now. But my spirit is responsible for a sense that goals will be available. Whoever out smarts the other within the 90’+ will take the day.
