Premier League Predictions: Week 18

Arsenal v Newcastle-

The Gunners are now winless in three games, and the reason for that has been the fact that they have been making far too many defensive mistakes for comfort, especially in their games against Man United and Southampton but to their credit, they did tighten up a bit at the London Stadium against a side that was fresh from beating the reigning champions, as they reverted back to a four man defense but their profligacy in front of goal, which has also been a factor in their winless streak did rear its ugly head in midweek though as they couldn’t convert any the 22 shots they were able to muster.

Newcastle on the other hand were sucker punched at home by a rapidly improving Everton side in what was a smash and grab game but that aside, they are a decent team and can be difficult to play against, and Arsenal will have to be extremely watchful.

This will be a tight affair nevertheless but I will go for a narrow home win here as I feel that the magpies will have their work cut against an Arsenal side that look much better defensively and have too much quality up front.

Prediction: 1-0

Chelsea v Southampton-

That was a much better performance from the champions after their insipid performance in their defeat against West Ham and they will have to do more of the same and much much more if they are to get better of a very solid, organized and dangerous Southampton side that came within minutes of taking two points off Man City and all three points off from Arsenal.

The Saints were however left shell shocked as Leicester raced to a three goal advantage by half time in their midweek game which was highly uncharacteristic of them, but gave a much improved performance in the second half but the Foxes were already out of sight at the time, and they do know that they will have to be their old selves if they are to leave Stamford Bridge with anything, and I don’t see that happening as Chelsea, and more importantly, Eden Hazard, have the bit between their teeth at the moment.

Prediction: 2-1

Man City v Tottenham-

Pep Guardiola’s men rediscovered their ruthless goal scoring streak in South Wales in midweek, as they absolutely ripped Swansea to shreds in a first half blitz which put them out of sight by the end of the first period, a result that clearly shows that the Blue half of Manchester is slowly but surely starting to pull away from the chasing pack, and they will want to pull further away when they host Tottenham in tomorrow’s late kick off.

Spurs meanwhile are in formidable form after scoring seven and conceding only one in their last two games, and will definitely fancy their chances against the league leaders, given that they have one of the best defenses in the league not to mention they also have one of if not the the best center forward in the league in Harry Kane.

Due to injury, Mauricio Pochettino has had to make a few adjustments and he has reverted to a back four, a move that looks to be paying dividends, and make no mistake about it, the North London side will be no pushovers, but I’ll go for a home win simply because City are finding ways to win even when they’re not at their best or when they are facing stern resistance.

Prediction: 2-1

West Brom v Man United-

The Baggies gave a much improved performance at Anfield as they shut down a very dynamic and dangerous Liverpool frontline with a compact, organized and disciplined display, and will be looking to win their first league game of the month when they host Man United on Sunday at The Hawthorns.

The Red Devils, meanwhile were able to get back to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bournemouth and will be looking to make it two wins in a row as they now they can afford any more slip ups as Man City do not look like they’re about to slow down anytime soon.

West Brom are a different team at home, and will definitely cause United some problems, but Injust think that The Red Devils will find a way to win this one as they know any slip ups will all but dent their title aspirations.

Prediction: 0-1

Bournemouth v Liverpool-

The Cherries gave a valiant display at Old Trafford albeit leaving the theatre of dreams empty handed, and will be looking to win their first game of the month when they host the reds at the vitality stadium on Sunday.

J├╝rgen Klopp’s men were frustrated by an organized West Brom side as the Liverpool attack didn’t have their way with them as they have had with most defenses so far this season but they with their top four aspirations on the line they will definitely turn up for this one.

Bournemouth have never been known to sit back and defend, especially at home and that will make it an open and expansive game while will play right into the hands of Liverpool’s nimble, quick silver attackers.

Prediction: 1-3

Everton v Swansea-

The Toffees have looked great under Sam Allardyce as they have conceded only one goal so far under his tenure, not to mention that they had conceded an eye watering twenty eight league goals before he walked into the halls of Goodison Park.

The fact that they have tightened up considerably at the back even without their defensive lynchpins Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane is also a testament to to Big Sam’s impact at the blue half is Merseyside, and they will be looking to notch their third win in four games against a Swansea side that suffered their second defeat in three games against a side that is inarguably the best football team in the league.

The Swans have suddenly started leaking in goals whilst they are not scoring that many on the other end, that’s why I’ll go for a home win here, as Everton will not only be hard to play against but they have a goal threat in the form of Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Prediction: 2-0

The predictions look quite in line from what surely looks like a beautiful match day full of dramas. I would love to see City finally loosing to the Yids but I doubt it is gonna be but I would not dismiss Tot against Cite because they surely do have the firepower to inflict damage on any team.
